Dong Hoi has some beautiful beaches by the resorts, but there really isn't much else going on. There seemed to be 1-2 streets where you could shop or buy things, and there was no nightlife. Caves are really a great attraction to visit in Vietnam! In addition to the caves and nature, we enjoyed the river view and walking along the river. We visited the other side of the river where the locals live in small picturesque houses.

Best Cave Tour Ever !! Must Must try and stay in front of Beach Hotel. PHONG NAH Cave is the #1. then Dark Cave. then Paradise Cave. Can't do 3 caves in 1 day. only 2 cave tour possible. So do it all in 2 days for all 3 caves.

We booked a trip to Phong-Nha caves with him and the trip was so good and he took care of everything and showed us great locations. He spoke good English and was able to tell more about Vietnam in general as well which was really nice! All together he went above and beyond to make our staying pleasant and smooth. They helped us to arrange transport back to Danang, sent us to the pickup place as there was a heavy downpour, waited with us and chatted with us. Really genuine and nice family business, I cannot recommend it enough. Phong Nha cave packages are available here as well where they will pick you from the hotel. Really loved seeing the neighborhood come to life around 4:00PM as children got out of school and restaurants and sidewalk vendors filled up. In addition to the friendly and helpful man at the front desk, we were welcomed by children in the street and a group of older guests at the hotel. The hotel was in a really good location, easy to go around, and the dark cave and paradise cave with kayak and Zipline was so much fun!

The hotel is not directly at the beach and I do not know what is meant with the private beach, but in any case one can walk in 10 minutes to the sunflower beach/restaurant that is actually the best beach we have seen in Vietnam during our one month holiday.
